Job Description

Morton Consulting is seeking a skilled Senior Infrastructure Engineer who will be responsible for recommending and implementing enterprise standards and industry best practices in a Nutanix virtual environment.  This role will work closely with other Infrastructure Engineers, IT and Security personnel to troubleshoot and maintain infrastructure assets and will participate and contribute to technology evaluations and roadmap discussion with third-party vendors.  The Senior Infrastructure Engineer is expected to be a self-starter who is comfortable prioritizing and effectively managing their daily workload and will assist in designing, implementing, and supporting Infrastructure and Network with a security and operational mindset.  This role requires the ability to analyze, troubleshoot and resolve highly complex issues within the infrastructure and network.    

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Recommending, designing, and implementing new technologies to support business initiatives
  • Partnering with Security organization to remediate any vulnerabilities and ensure all assets are secure
  • Monitoring and maintaining virtual environments to contain 400+ Windows and Red Hat virtual machines across Nutanix Acropolis
  • Mentoring junior engineers
  • Provide day to day operational support for Arista LAN and Wi-Fi infrastructure
  • Continuously improving processes and documentation for Infrastructure assets
  • Expert level experience in routing & switching, Wi-Fi and network packet brokers to design, implement, and support our datacenter and campus networks.
  • Supporting business services by completing requests and resolving incidents in documented SLA timings; as well as following all change management processes
  • Translate complex business requirements and objectives into leaf-spine network solutions
  • Ensuring security solutions, policies, and procedures are sufficient to meet and respond to threats to our data and endpoint infrastructure
  • Assisting in streamlining project requirements, create test and implementation plans, as well as identifying potential gaps to ensure successful project delivery
  • Develop and maintain a network infrastructure monitoring and alerting strategy
  • Identifying automation opportunities within daily tasks and leveraging PowerShell or other scripting languages to automate repeatable tasks
  • Balancing operational and project related activities, ensuring both are delivered correctly and timely
  • Providing delivery of service requests through a ITIL based Service Management process
  • Recommending and providing technical support processes, metrics, and SLAs
  • After-hours and weekend work may be required as situations arise.
  • Other duties as assigned
Required Skills and Experience:
  • Knowledge of system administration processes and best practices
  • Ability to learn new technologies and assist others in learning new technologies
  • Strong experience with network technologies such as Ethernet, VLANs, VxLAN, VPN, IP Routing, TCP/IP, OSPF, BGP, IPsec, MACsec, Multicast, QoS, Wi-Fi, VoIP, and 802.1X
  • Expert knowledge within Active Directory and Group Policy
  • Strong experience with Microsoft DNS, DHCP and DFS
  • Experience with Arista (preferably) or other commercial Wi-Fi platform
  • Extensive experience with data-center management, system security, and Nutanix hyper-converged infrastructure 
  • Excellent customer service and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent written skills and desire to document network infrastructures
  • Experience with working in an ITIL or similar service operational environment
Desired Skills:
  • Working knowledge of Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Rubrik or similar backup architecture
  • Palo Alto firewall experience
  • Working knowledge of Public Key Infrastructure
  • Citrix NetScaler or load balancing experience
  • Experience working with a Network Access Control solution
Education and/or Experience             
                                  
Bachelor’s degree in business information systems or closely related field from a four-year college or university preferred and 8+ years’ experience in infrastructure operations and project delivery.  Strong working knowledge of Commonwealth of VA Information Security Standard (SEC530) preferred.

The individual will follow a Hybrid work schedule including 2 days onsite per week. The individual may also be called to be onsite for critical meetings and engineering discussions.
